An Advent calendar using an old baking sheet and Nikki Sivils Gingerbread Land (with a tutorial!) :)

 Hi everyone :)
I wanted to share an Advent Calendar I made for my kids that I made from an old baking sheet and Nikki Sivils Gingerbread Land collection! :) I have wanted to make an advent calendar for them FOREVER now... and this year I finally found the time! :)

Here is what my calendar looks like :)

I started off with an old baking (cookie) sheet :)

Had Hubby and my Son Adam drill two holes for me :)

I then cut out 48 2x2 inch squares :)

I then sewed them into pockets! :)

Then I covered and decorated the baking (cookie sheet) :)

I bought some magnets :)

I decorated the fronts of each square and added a date for each one (up to Christmas Eve) :)

I then glued the magnets to the back of the 'pockets' :)

And look! My Son Adam even helped me :) He doesn't look thrilled... but I promise... it was his idea to help :)

And here is my finished project and some close ups :)

I have seen several versions of baking sheet Advent calendars before...and I have always wanted to try it ... so I made this one :) The pink squares will be for Brookie and the green ones for Adam :)

I made the trees using my Cricut and then used Nikki's alphas to put "Adam & Brooke" :):):)

Thanks so much for stopping by -- we appreciate it :)
~~Julie :)

Julie, this is AMAZING!! I love how creative you are! I've never made or even used an Advent calendar myself, but I think this would be an excellent new family tradition! Thanks for the idea! :)

I'd never heard of baking sheet Advent calendars but like Wendy said, it's time I got rid of at least one of my baking trays. I'll have a look at which of my cartridges has a tree I could use for the bottom. I also like that red wool balls type adornment around the edges - sorry, I haven't got a clue what the proper name for it is :-)I must search out something similiar.
N.B I don't seem to be able to find a stockist in the U.K of Nikki's papers. Do you have a list available please, as those papers just make it so easy and effective?

Hi Diane, thanks to you and everyone else that left me some love on my advent calendar :):):):)

Diane - I found one store in the UK that carries her products - but it doesn't appear they carry Gingerbread Land yet (Nikki has a list of stores on her left side bar here)... but I did find the "Gingerbread Land" collection at Scrapbook.com here http://store.scrapbook.com/nik-419.html

Also the Cricut cartridge I used is: Doodlecharms :):):):):)

Thanks again everyone :):):):):):):):):):):)

Thanks Julie. I meant to say I could find other collections but not Gingerbread Land. Thanks for the hyperlink but buying from America gets expensive with customs duty. I'm going to Florida next year, so I'll just have to buy a ton of stuff whilst I'm there :-)
Thanks heaps for telling us which cartridge you used - saves me searching -much appreciated.
